Class Discussion

Our New Testament class today was on Hebrews 6:13-20, with the background in Genesis 22:1-18. One of the students after class asked if it is possible for a true child of God to lose his or her salvation. It is a question asked over the ages. This quote from John Calvin seemed to me to shed some light on it. In the parable of the Sower (Luke 8) Jesus says, "They believe for a while . . ." (V. 13). Here is what Calvin said - (Please leave your Comments!):

Calvin on ‘Temporary Faith’

Is it possible for someone to believe for a time and then fall away? Yes, but as Calvin notes, the scripture teaches that those who had this ‘temporary faith’ were not born again:

According to Luke, Christ says that they believe for a time; because that honor which they render to the Gospel resembles faith. At the same time we ought to learn, that they are not truly regenerated by the incorruptible seed, which never fadeth, as Peter tells us, (1 Peter 1:4) for he says that these words of Isaiah, The word of God endureth for ever, (Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 1:25) are fulfilled in the hearts of believers, in whom the truth of God, once fixed, never passes away, but retains its vigor to the end. Still, those persons who take delight in the word of God, and cherish some reverence for it, do in some manner believe; for they are widely different from unbelievers, who give no credit to God when he speaks, or who reject his word. In a word, let us learn that none are partakers of true faith, except those who are scaled with the Spirit of adoption, and who sincerely call on God as their Father; and as that Spirit is never extinguished, so it is impossible that the faith, which he has once engraved on the hearts of the godly, shall pass away or be destroyed.

Thanksgiving Prayer at Star and Sarekha's House 9/18

Srinu ("Star") and Sarekha are two of the Peniel Bible College students. Star was sick for quite a while and has recovered. Also there have been blessings in their lives. So they had Thanksgiving Prayer at their house today. They are two of my very favorite people, and very deep, happy Christians. Please pray for them. There were several testimonies today and the Word of God was preached.

Star is a fabulous cook, and the food was outstanding. Brother Sharath's son Joshua and I ate at their house before Shanti and Sharath returned from the Philippines. Thank God for the wonderful Indian Christians. You can see the joy and sincerity in their faces, can't you!!?

Tuesday Night Prayer with Pastor Solomon Raju 09.17.13

We went to another remote village this evening for a prayer service with the people. This church was built since we visited it in 2008. The Pastor, Solomon Raju, was a farmer before a preacher. He has been their pastor for 17 years. About 7 years ago he began to visit and evangelize in a Fisher community village. These people are higher caste than the Dalit and very closed. They threatened him and rejected him for a long time. One evening he was threatened by a large man with a stick who came to beat him. But another villager stopped him and the meeting went on. He was often yelled at and told to leave. Now about 80% of the village is Christian. The elders of the village some time ago asked him to come and tell them why he was saying that they should not worship idols. He said that he was only telling them what the Bible said.
Later another person offered to donate a building
and that is where the church now meets. The idol
temples are now in disuse. Praise the Lord!!!

This woman was barren for many years, but the
pastor prayed or her and she recived a miracle son.

She cooked our dinner and it was wonderful! That is her mother with her. Her husband is working in the Middle East to support the family.

Keep Scrolling!!!

Miracle of Deliverance for A Whole Church

Saturday September 14, 2013, 11:30 PM India Standard Time
Pastor Nelli John Babu

Pastor Nelli John Babu, K. Pedapudi village, East Godivari District, AP India brought this report today of a miraculous deliverance for one of our village churches. If the Lord had not intervened, they might have burned the church or persecuted the believers. Here is the story in Pastor Sharath's words:
"So today the pastor came and he brought the testimony of what has happened at his village. The village is more of the Dalit community. He has been ministering in this church for the past 20 years. As a result of the ministry our GFI aquired land and constructed the church. Today around 50 people are attending the church. Recently we started a feeding program for the children under Word of His Grace Ministries. 45 children are attending and receiving the meal.

"Last week there was a big celebration of a Hindu festival. This festival goes for nine days. This is all over India. In every corner of the streets people install the idol with the elephant head and worship for nine days. So in this village the people from other faith installed an idol and asked the believers for donations. The people from the church said they do not give the donation for the festival. Immediately the people got angry and turned against the ministry and the pastor: "Because of this pastor our people became Christians and are not participating with the rest of the villagers."

"And also they were furious against the ministry. One person said, "I am going to stop the church services." The same night this person was bitten by a poisonous snake. He was so afraid of his life and his wife came against him and said, "Because you are against the Christian ministry, so you received this kind of punishment." The fear fell upon all the villagers.

"The pastor prayed for him, and also the pastor prayed all night for the situation between the believers and the people of other faiths. Our pastor went to see him the next day. This man apologized with our pastor and gave a small donation into his hands.

"Please pray for this village as many, many new beleivers are adding every week.

"In the near future we will visit this  village of K. Pedapudi with the partnership of Pastor Steve Heintz of The Harvesters. This village also is helped by the National Missionary Adoption Program (N-MAP). Please pray for this mission, and for peace and happiness among the believers and the villagers. Thank you."
